Did you know that there are 10 times more bacteria in residence in the body than there are human cells?

“We are more bacteria than we are human,” according to Raphael Kellman, MD, of Kellman Wellness Center in New York. He also states that the gut micro biome “governs” many of our body’s key functions and is crucial to our overall health, including weight loss and sustaining a healthy weight.

Adding in fermented foods has proven to be quite effective. Foods that undergo the fermentation process, during which the natural sugars are broken down, “boost the number of beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, in your gut.” Based on a recent study, fermented foods can promote healthy weight loss as a result of the probiotic properties offered from fermented food groups. Not only can these foods support weight loss but they also proved to decrease high insulin levels, high blood pressure, and stabilize healthy glucose.

Another study has show that probiotics may help release the appetite reducing hormones, which helps our bodies to burn more calories and fat.

In addition to these glorious benefits, fermented foods also help to improve digestion by supporting enzymatic breakdown and also by restoring natural balance in the belly. To name a few of these “wonderful fermented foods” for you:

1

Miso - Which undergoes a two-stage fermentation, first by a mold and then by bacteria and yeast added to a mix of salt and soybeans.

Sauerkraut - Is a great food for weightless not only because it’s low in calories and high in fiber, but because the probiotics in sauerkraut have the ability to reduce the amount of fat your body absorbs from your diet.

Homemade Yogurt - Made with kefir and raw goat milk. As a result of soaking the kefir, strains of lactobacillus, bifidobacterium, and other natural organisms are produced. These strains support the restoration of balancing the flora in the gut.

Fermented Vegetables - Starting with some of diced up veggies such as broccoli, radishes, and carrots. Place them into a one-quart mason jar, add two cups of water, and one tablespoon of coarse sea salt, add any spices and herbs of choice, and cover with lid. Place out of the sun and soak 5-10 days. The results…fermented veggies filled with healthy probiotic strains to support gut balance, weight loss, and more!

Supporting the gut micro biome with diverse bacteria from food source is linked to “lower rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and more.”
